“My friend Jill has a flower stand down at the farmer’s market,” Sarah says. Bucky blinks, confused, as she hands him the last dish to dry. “Sam likes sunflowers best. Just in case you were wondering.”
Then she walks away, just as Bucky drops the plate.
Or: five times people assume Sam and Bucky are dating, and one time Bucky realizes they sort of are.
“Alright, what gives?” Sam demands. “Why do you turn down every single person I try to set you up with?”
He expects Bucky to avoid the question, come up with all sorts of excuses. What he doesn’t expect is for Bucky to start laughing.
“C’mon, Sam. Seriously?”
“Yes, seriously.”
“Sam,” Bucky finally says, slow and deliberate. “I’m not interested in anyone you’ve tried to set me up with because I’ve been gone on you for ages.”
When his therapist tells him he needs a hobby, Bucky takes a surprising interest in dog sitting, and when Sam notices the random influx of texts Bucky starts getting and his new habit of going out and not coming home until the morning, he jumps to the wrong conclusion.
“Are you okay with this?" Bucky asks.
“Yeah,” Sam nods. “Yeah, I mean, it’s not like it would be real. It doesn’t have to mean anything.”
“Exactly.”
“So it’s not a big deal.”
“Right.”
Bucky stares at Sam, expectant, and Sam stares back.
“Well?” Bucky smirks. “You gonna make the first move, or what?”
Or: in an effort to combat the rumors about who Sam is dating, he and Bucky make a rash decision that results in forcing the two of them to pretend to be in a relationship for three months. For PR reasons, of course.
Sam Wilson is an amazing realtor. He works hard, he takes care of his clients, and he can sell any house he puts his mind to.
Unless, of course, the house happens to be haunted by an irritating, standoffish ghost who died in 1940. Then things get a little more complicated.
