One day, Dean finds a diary hidden on top of the lockers at his high school, and he's totally not planning on reading that much of it - until he catches sight of his own name at the top of a page. It seems like the writer has a crush on him. Dean knows who he wants the mystery person to be - he's had a crush on a certain blue-eyed physicist since forever - but there's no way it could be Castiel. That'd be just too good to be true - right?

For most of their freshman year, they’d done a pretty good job of avoiding each other on their college campus. Most people didn’t even realise that they knew each other, let alone that they’d almost dated in high school. Their friend groups were entirely separate and they didn’t share any classes. The only thing they had in common was the building they lived in - a fourteen-storey monstrosity with a cold, clammy back stairwell that was best avoided. Dean had never known the alternative - a slightly old, but reliable elevator - to ever malfunction before.
Except here he was, punching 'Request Assistance' repeatedly at one in the morning, with Castiel Novak behind him.
Cas paints Dean, over and over, trying to bring his portraits to life - trying to make right something that he did a long time ago. When Dean finds the paintings, he and Cas find themselves having a conversation that's long overdue: talking about what happened down in the crypt, when Naomi was in control of Cas - until something broke the connection.
Dean loves his work in the bakery, with his brother Sam and their friend Charlie. He especially loves it right now, with the promise of romance on the horizon. But there's something not quite normal about his favourite customer; with his bright blue eyes and ruffled brown hair, he's seriously handsome, and Dean knows they have a connection - but he never speaks. Not once. Anyone else might give up, but Dean just doesn't work that way. As sure as bread is bread, Dean's going to get the mysterious stranger to speak with him.
Dean's looking forward to another night studying with his roommate, Cas. They don't usually get a lot of studying done - mostly they just talk, and other friend stuff like that. But then Dean finds out that Cas is ditching their study session and going on a blind date - so when he's offered a date of his own, Dean decides to go along. After all, anything's better than moping around the dorm, wondering why he cares so much that Cas is out dating someone else. Dean's not exactly expecting to make a love connection - but of course, the night has a few surprises in store...

Dean, meanwhile, has just started learning about mechanics from his father. They belong to different worlds - but when chance brings Castiel into Dean's father's workshop, they meet, with incredible consequences. Dean Winchester, local author and obvious a-hole, who is entirely too handsome to be true and who is clearly totally lacking in profundity, intelligence, sincerity, and self-awareness. Unfortunately, though, Dean’s been invited to do a book signing at Heaven’s Gate - and Castiel’s about to be confronted by some unexpected feelings when he finally meets Dean for the first time.
Dean and Castiel are locked in deadly combat, a battle that has raged for three years - a prank war that's been their Christmas tradition since their romance catastrophically failed to launch. Dean is a Prince, and even in the 21st century he’s expected to make a good match (unfortunately for Castiel, marrying your local librarian and best friend apparently doesn’t count). The announcement of Dean’s upcoming arranged marriage to someone he doesn’t even know hits Castiel hard.
But late in the night during his bachelor party in Las Vegas, Dean leans over to Castiel and asks him a question. Castiel knows he should say no. But the next morning, Dean and Castiel wake up with matching rings on their fingers.
With an international incident only one mistake away, Dean and Castiel begin trying to get an annulment in secret - but slowly realise that neither of them wants to spend the rest of their lives apart.
Dean's doing fine. He's always late for work, he's not taking care of himself, and he isn't planning on changing that - but seriously, he's fine. Except for one thing: someone's brought back the chili pepper rating system for all of the professors on campus, and Dean isn't rated the hottest. It's Castiel Novak, the guy who's always walking around in terrible sweater vests, who's got the full ten chilis - and that's something Dean does plan to change.
