In which Yuuri spends a 25 hour flight next to Victor Nikiforov, skating legend, and feels it might simultaneously be the best and worst thing that has ever happened to him.
Yuuri never goes to Detroit. He gets an offer to train with Yakov Feltsman in St. Petersburg and takes that, instead. He's about to enter the Senior division and his idol, Victor Nikiforov, is in his prime, at the apex of his spectacular winning streak.
It's the opportunity of a lifetime. More good fortune than Yuuri thinks he deserves... until he actually arrives in Russia. He's cold and lonely, fighting for scraps of attention from his coach, and he felt closer to Victor when they were continents apart.
At arrivals, Viktor moved so fast that he was a blur, barreling into Yuuri’s arms and clinging to him like Yuuri was a seat cushion in the unlikely event of a water landing.
“Hey, Vitya.” The smaller man smiled, adjusting his feet to keep his balance under his fiancé's full body weight.
“I missed you so much.” Viktor rasped.
“I missed you too.” Yuuri cooed before Viktor pulled away just enough to cough into his elbow.
It was a deep, wet cough. The kind that whipped throats, and Yuuri could see Viktor’s nose crinkle slightly in pain as it did.
“Sweetheart, are you sick?” He asked, pressing his hand to his love’s forehead. It was hot, and not in the sexy way- well, it was that too- but it was also temperature hot.
AU where Yuuri makes it to worlds after The Banquet™ and Yuuri and Victor give interviews next to each other in between performances. It’s all about food - Yuuri describes katsudon, his favourite dish, and Victor slips up and says he wants to eat KatsuKI when asked what he's looking forward to having while in Japan.
Miscommunication ensues – who knew a katsudon fatale could get so complicated? Victor keeps coming back for more, Yuuri just wants to talk… will either of them ever be satisfied?
After the Grand Prix Final, Yuuri accompanies Victor to his parents' home in Siberia.
Where Yuuri remembers the banquet, Viktor forgets, and Yakov Feltsman has his own plans.
“I’ve been made aware of your recent break with Celestino Cialdini, and would like to offer you a trial period where you train under me, in St. Petersburg. There are only three conditions: you will board with another one of my students, you will take ballet with Madame Baranovskaya, and you will help me coach Yuri Plisetsky, who refuses to listen to my criticisms of his spins.” Yakov nods at this point, leans forwards and looks Yuuri in the eye. “I will charge no coaching fees.” With a deal like that, even if it means he has to face Viktor again, Yuuri has no choice but to agree.
4 years of love turned to nothing but lies.
An evening of alcohol has Yuuri on a dating app, jokingly looking for a rebound.
Only it becomes less of a joke when he meets Viktor.
“The law clearly states that the regent shall have a mate. It is widely known that being mated keeps one’s head clearer, brings joy and strengthens relations, both in one’s professional and personal life. Since I do not have a mate, nor do I have anyone in my life as of right now that I would want to spend my life with in that way, I have chosen to evoke the ‘Catarina praxi.
“Lilia will give out the specific details how it will be conducted, but it will be a nationwide search for a mate for me and will require scent samples. As those of you who are familiar with the praxi knows, this means that all omegas that fall into the chosen group are prohibited from entering a mateship until an engagement between me and a chosen omega has been announced. This results in that all unmated omegas from the age of eighteen to twenty eight are now legally arranged to be mated to me, until an official engagement has been made."
The Nicholai Hall explodes with questions from the reporters as Lilia steps up to the microphone, while Yuuri keeps completely still, eyes wide and mouth hanging open, heart pounding in his chest.
“Welcome to Crazy In Love - a dating show where one lucky omega gets to question and scent three alphas blindly, to decide who they want to take out on a date! Tonight we have Yuuri Katsuki with us, a ballet dancer with the Hasetsu Opera, here to find his match! Behind the screen hides a chef with a special interest in rock climbing, a lead singer in a band, model and clothing designer as well as a professor in Informational Technology who enjoys reading and figure skating when he's not working. Will any of these hidden alphas be a good fit? Which of them will win the omega's heart, and who will walk away empty handed?"
“A fortnight,” he offered, and Victor met his gaze head on, feeling a thrill race up his spine. “Surely father would be able to sustain himself for a fortnight. The servers are here, his friends are, and I am sure that if they knew you wanted to go, they would happily help in keeping father company.”
“He would complain terribly,” Victor pointed out, but Yuri only shrugged.
“What do you say little brother? Some adventure would be nice, would it not?” Yuri tempted, and with a cocky grin reached out his hand. Victor took a deep breath, and impulsively reached out and shook on it.

Or: Victor has been cooped up in the country side his entire life for the sake of his father. His older brother Yuri feels it is time to remedy it, and after some persuasion brings Victor to London. The large city is quite overwhelming - but there are bright spots, like the dark haired, dark eyes Mr. Katsuki who Victor cannot seem to look away from.
